Imad’s ordeal began when he suffered a serious injury as a result of his house in southern Idlib being targeted with a barrel bomb. This resulted in the 42 year-old having his legs amputated above the knee. He became permanently disabled, which caused him to face many difficulties as he is the breadwinner for his family and has several children.
Imad’s rehabilitation is one of the biggest success stories at the Al-Sham Center for Artificial Limbs in the countryside of Hama, which is supported by Al-Bashair Charity Convoy. Imad began visiting the center two months ago and undergoing various comprehensive examinations, which resulted in the manufacture and surgical installation of two prosthetic limbs last month. These have helped him to be able to partially stand and walk. In addition, Imad underwent training and rehabilitation in walking, and he is expected to be able to live a normal life just as before his injury.
The personnel of the Al-Sham Center follow Imad’s case rigorously by providing him with psychological support and visiting him periodically at his home as well as encouraging him to use the two prosthetic limbs. In addition, he was asked to keep visiting the Center in order to continuously review his ability to walk again and the compatibility of the prosthetic limbs.
