In fact, the stories of the orphans we will be putting forward are included in the project “Orphan sponsorship projects…”, that is carried out by Al- Sham Humanitarian Foundation (AHF), which covers the Syrian city of Idlib. These success stories are part of AHF’s efforts to take care of all the orphans in Syria, sponsor them and meet their most urgent needs.
Without a Breadwinner ..
Our first success story will be with Amir M., who lost his breadwinner and support in life at a very early age. His father was martyred, leaving him in the arms of his mother, who was soon forced to leave him at his grandfather’s house to head to Aleppo. As a result, he found himself without father or mother. He found solace only in the warm loving smile of his grandfather.
Although the grandfather did not spare his grandson with his tenderness and affection, the natural calamities worn this helpless grandfather. His smile hid a lot of pain and suffering from the scourge of war. Four of his five sons were killed, one after the other. This grandfather was to be the only breadwinner for the rest of the families of his lost sons. Despite the hardship that this old man has to undergo in dealing with all the members of his family and his struggle to preserve the trust entrusted to him, yet he was armed with patience and with the strength of his faith in God.
When we visited this family and took a look at the situation in which they were living, especially the child, Samer, we did not hesitate to include him in the project “Orphan sponsorship projects”, so that it may help his grandfather to take care of him, hoping that Samer would be able to draw a bright and brilliant future for him so that he might compensate his grandfather for his sacrifices.
Abdullah and Du’aa .. between Despair and Hope:
The names of the orphans may vary, but their stories are similar. They reflect much suffering and pain as a result of the war. In fact, Abdullah and his sister, Duaa, lost their father, who was martyred as a result of the shelling that took place while trying to reach the Court in Ma’arat al-Nu’man for solving a simple difference. The two children lost their breadwinner, leaving only their mother.
In the meantime, poverty and need enfolded these children while despair and sadness cast a shadow over the life of this virtuous lady and her two children. What frightened this mother most was to be displaced and lost. However, this mother did not succumb to her sorrows. She soon fixed a noble objective for her two children for them to endeavor to achieve. In the end, the efforts of this great lady were successful. Both Abdullah and Du’aa were able to memorize twenty parts of the Holy Quran. The effect of the sponsorship granted by “Give them Enough from yr. Donation…” project was later revealed in the life of this family. It was most useful for them in their ordeal while it was an incentive and motivation for the two children to complete memorizing the Holy Quran and continue their education, in addition to securing all their necessities.
When both Loss of Breadwinner and Disease Afflict the family:
Despite all the difficulties facing the humanitarian sector, AHF is striving to help as many orphans as possible. So, when we learned about the tragedy of the twins Salsabil Mohammed S. and Bisan Mohammed S., we were quick to visit the affected family and extend our help to them. They and their mother were living at their grandmother’s house. In addition to the fear of poverty and terror as a result of the constant bombardment around this family, the old grandmother was suffering many diseases. To make things worse, disease has infiltrated the family’s pillar to reach the mother of the twins.
In fact, this woman suffered from a deficiency of the thyroid gland, which gradually turned into the beginning of malignant disease. As the disease worsened and the mother’s condition aggravated, the family learned that Salsabil had been infected with malignant disease. We have initiated the sponsorship within the project, in order to help both the mother and the child, Salsabil, pay the cost of treatment. We can only pray to God to relieve them of their suffering.
Ahmed’s Family .. From the Hardship of Life, to a Decent Life
Our next destination was a very simple and dilapidated room. In the home there were no basic furniture, utensils or various necessities. In fact, AHF’ team had to travel a long distance between the rugged mountains to reach the Ahmad family’s home, this family which lacks a breadwinner. In the meantime, the mother is the only person responsible for securing the price of bread for her children, for she works in the agricultural land in the region for a very small fee that does not exceed 500 Syrian pounds a day.
We wanted to help this family by providing a sponsorship of 500 days’ worth of work for that mother. The mother’s happiness reached the sky when she realized the amount of sponsorship she had been given to help her meet the needs of her children to get them out of their very difficult situation. Furthermore, this sponsorship will relieve the mother of part of the trouble of hard work in agricultural land.
AHF will not stop extending help and sponsorship to the orphans as long as it is able to do so. We ask God to grant us success and help us extend a hand to all vulnerable people in Syria so that we may support them in light of the difficult conditions in the country.
