When we moved to another house, where poverty and deprivation prevailed, we had an appointment with brother “Zuhair Adnan al-Sabbagh”. Zuhair worked as a driver before he was injured by a shrapnel in his back, which resulted in the amputation of his right hand, the removal of his spleen and one of his kidneys, in addition to an injury at the level of his lungs.

In reality, the nine-member family suffered woes as they were below the poverty line, water and electricity were even cut off from their house and they were living in total darkness. The family was not able to do anything but to ask their neighbours to provide them with water. Added to that, since the family faced harsh conditions, such as the recurrent displacement due to repeated bombings and the deteriorating health situation of the breadwinner, the family of brother Zuhair was classified among the afflicted families.

In this context, the team of Al-Sham Humanitarian Foundation intervened to help the family in launching the “Good Earning” project which is founded by Raf Foundation. The project consists of coagulating milk and it cost $1575 as a whole. With the help of his wife, and thanks to the project’s income, around $130 a month, brother Zuhair was able to expand the shop through bringing foodstuff and supply products, in addition to citrus, honey and canned food. Recently, brother Zuhair, thanks to God, managed to bring all kinds of vegetables and fruits and the shop became like a small supermarket which contained almost all varieties.

When the foundation’s team asked brother Zuhair about the success of the “Good Earning” Project, he answered: “By the grace of God, my success began since I went out to work and left the isolation, and I did not forget the distress that I went through. For this reason, I sold goods with a very small profit rate, taking into account the situation of the poor people. I also allocated an amount of $10 as a monthly subsidy to my brothers. I consider my success story and the help I received from others as an example of Islamic solidarity and making benefits for everybody.”
